(Guide) Hengdian World Studios Scenic Area: 5 Parks Explained + Which Ticket to Buy

If you love Chinese dramas, historical C-dramas, or simply want to explore one of China’s biggest film and television production bases, Hengdian World Studios (横店影视城) is worth putting on your travel list.


Hengdian is huge, and one of the confusing things for first-time visitors is that it isn’t just one theme park. There are multiple large scenic areas, each designed around different historical periods and filming styles.

Hengdian World Studios 5 Parks at a Glance

This is the most touristy park out of all the Hengdian World Studios as it is maintained, fully decorated and filled up with NPC (Non-Playable Characters) and events to entertain you.

Qin Palace: Qin dynasty palace architecture and massive historical sets. Drama shot here includes The Untamed, Love Like The Galaxy, Key to The Phoenix Heart, Joy of Life and Ashes to Crown.

Below guide are currently in progress:

Ming and Qing Palaces: Built based on the architecture of Beijing’s Forbidden City and combines imperial palaces, royal gardens, mansions. Drama shot here includes Pursuit of Jade and Story of Yanxi Palace.
Qing Ming Shang He Tu: Inspired by the famous painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival, the park recreates the bustling streets, waterways, bridges and shops. Mostly used in older drama like Love and Redemption and Under The Power.
Guangzhou & Hong Kong Street: Film set recreating 19th–20th century Guangzhou and Hong Kong, with old streets, colonial buildings, harbour scenery and period architecture. Originally built for the 1997 film 《鸦片战争》 (The Opium War), it was a filming location for historical and Republican-era dramas.
Dream Valley: Not a filming location but more of a theme park situated near Qin Palace

How to purchase tickets?

If you are a foreigner, the easiest way to purchase tickets for any China attraction is via trip.com. You can pay in your own currency and the price is the same or sometimes cheaper than the official website.

Entry Ticket Prices

Prices listed for adult. Discounted ticket given to children, students and seniors above 60yo

  • 1 day ticket: CNY239 (~RM145)
  • 2 days ticket: CNY369 (~RM225)

Cancellation Policy: Tickets purchased on trip.com can be cancelled and refunded at any time as long as it has not been used.

Entry Method: You will need to provide Name & Passport Number upon booking. Present your passport at the turnstile gate, no ticket pickup required.

You can also purchase a Short Drama recording experience with makeup + costume (1 day advance purchase required and need to make reservation for the filming via phone call).

Note: I don’t have a review for this experience since I didn’t try it but it looks super interesting.

The short drama recording will only be conducted at either Ming & Qing Palaces or Qing Ming Shanghe Tu.

If you purchase this via trip.com, you can only purchase this short drama package together with single park entry ticket, makeup & costume for CNY 499 (~RM304)

However, if you purchase the package via Hengdian World Studios WeChat Mini App, you’ll get to buy the short drama filming package without ticket, without makeup & costume for CNY218.

(Note: you need a ticket to do this package this is in case you’ve already purchased a ticket separately or have already chosen another hanfu rental shop).

If you would like to purchase tickets via MiniApp, scan the QR code below using WeChat (click the “+” sign > Scan).

Once you enter the MiniApp, click “Services” and the Chinese word “景区门票预订” as circled in picture below. Payment need to be made via WeChat pay.
